* Potentiometers- a lot of people are having trouble with their forward and reverse, because it is either out of range or out all-together. This is indicated by blinking lights: Ex- fast dot, slow dot, slow dot means it's the reverse potentiometer.
* Hydraulic hoses & cylinder leaks (bucket won't stay up or curled)
* Wiring harness (usually rodents have chewed into this)
* Basic services like replacing filters, air/fuel/hydraulic oil filters, lube jobs (lubrication of all the zerq/ zerc fittings)
The most common problems include:
* Newer tractors have problems with the potentiometers- reverse and forward- so they both can go out or one or the other.
* A sensor in the transmission (MFWD sensor) commonly goes out that frequently needs to be replaced.
* Smaller tractors- your 1000s series and 2000 series- the rod-shaft control valve (controls the hydraulic fluid to and from the 3-point control arms- often goes out, causing a problem with the loader.
The big combines- those Huge Ones- you really can't repair. However, the smaller farm John Deere tractors- if not under warranty- you can repair it. Leased tractor repairs should go through John Deere. We can handle most of the rest, and if you check our 5-star reviews, you'll see that we do these repairs quite professionally and at a reasonable rate.
* Schedule service- oil change, hydraulic fluid, fuel filters- 50, 100 and 200 services (check your manual)
* Keep safety switches area clean (near seat, as ex, keep debris away from it), otherwise it might not start because safety switch is broken or dirty). Sometimes near back panel as well.
* Check your oil on a regular basis- make sure there's enough oil and that it's not dirty.
* Make sure that you grease all the zerq fittings (and really, any grease fitting of something metal or that moves next to metal). Keep those joints lubricated!
